Kris Collo probably reads more emails before his first meeting of the day than other folks read all day.

“It is one of the best ways for me to take the pulse of what’s happening in the company right now,” Kris told Yahoo! Small Business Advisor, an online resource for entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Kris was recently featured on the website, which partners with The Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) to profile some of the most successful business leaders in the world. Kris, who started MicroPact when he was only 21, was invited to join YEC earlier this year.

Along with sharing his daily habit of reading countless emails each morning, Kris also talked about his business hero (Richard Branson), some important traps entrepreneurs needs to avoid (don’t be fooled into thinking you need cool office space) and his definition of success (“… When I see people grow and do great things with their careers, I feel like I’m successful as a CEO.”)

The biggest piece of advice focused on how Kris approaches the concept of “best practices.”

“Remember that you and your business are unique,” Kris said. “What was good for someone else isn’t always good for you. Write your own best practices and remember that nothing is written in stone and you have the power to shape it for your business.”
