University of British Columbia Case Study
The University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Medicine is the fourth largest of 160 medical training universities in North America. They have 19 academic departments, two schools, and 21 research institutes and centers. UBC educates undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students, putting 1,530 new doctors to work since 2008.
The Challenge: A Sprawling realm of medical residents
More than 100 UBC sites are spread across British Columbia, UBC faced a tremendous challenge in efficiently managing a distributed education program of this scale, while striving to double production to meet organizational goals.
Several UBC systems needed updating, including teacher tracking and payment, clinical placement and management, and resident management — which posed a particular challenge.
In short, resident movement and progress needed to be recorded accurately and easily.
